About Underground Cheesecake
Our Story
In 1985 co-founders Lori Dawson and Mary Vickerman started their “cottage business” in the basement of Mary’s Traverse City home. They put their company in the public eye as much as possible, attending all community events, art and craft shows, and charity fundraisers. Because people kept asking where they could come visit (and because their delivery driver had trouble finding a parking spot in their residential neighborhood) they soon opened a place to serve the public. Featured several times on The Food Network - our little dessert boutique attracted customers from all over the world. Over 30 years later, the next generation of bakers is serving our Northern Michigan community the same handcrafted recipes. Because of our commitment to quality, we continue to bake for you, our customer, the most incredible products you will ever taste.
The Switch to Wholesale
In 2019 the Underground Cheesecake team decided we wanted people outside of Northern Michigan to experience our products. The goal was to expand our reach while maintaining our commitment to small batch, handcrafted desserts. To achieve this goal, we closed our public facing retail store and launched our own grocery line of frozen desserts. Several phone calls and one pandemic later – we now have a full catalog of items featured in grocery stores throughout the state of Michigan.
